VALUE
The real definition of value:
The definition of value (quoting The Art History Glossary) is an Element of art associated with the darkness or lightness of a color
with the point of creating the illusion that light is present in the artwork.
Value is the key to the illusion of light.

Without the contrast of light and darkness, artworks would look flat and one-dimensional.

Description of Value:
Value allows the artist to create the illusion that light is existent in the artwork, it also creates shadows and highlights to make the masterpiece more realistic. With the combination of highlights and shadows it creates the illusion of a light source. If we dont have light, there is no way to see, basically without a light source we have no illusion; that is why value is one of the most important seven elements of art.
Remember, without light we cannot see. So technically, without a light source, you have no illusion. Value consists of tints, shades, and highlights that provide one's artwork with dimension, thus, incorporing depth and the reality factor.

Feathered Gown by: Stefanie Hirsch
![Picture](/uploads/1/1/1/7/11171165/1348185015.jpg)
I created this feathered gown adding diverse types of lights in each feather to see the contrast of every piece. I added value in the hair, the back and all the gown to make it more realistic. Some parts, like the skin, and some feathers are very light, and in contrast, some parts, like other feather and the hair are dark. My purpose was to show the light in my drawing.
